Chris Combs

Computer Science student and software engineer building thoughtful tools, games, and AI-assisted workflows.

Building software that makes real work easier

I’m a Computer Science student and software engineer who likes shipping practical tools—not demos that gather dust. Lately I’ve been working closely with AI agents and custom agent skills, folding them into research, coding, and project follow-through so I can move faster without cutting corners on quality.

That shift has changed how I work. I take on more ambitious projects, iterate quicker, and spend more of my time on design and problem-solving instead of repetitive busywork. Whether it’s a game engine feature, a backend dashboard, or a better study workflow, I’m looking for hard problems worth building against.

Dec 2019 — Present

  • Developing a digital planner application with Java Swing, focused on complex interface requirements and a smoother day-to-day user experience.
  • Designing and implementing Jumprun, a 2D game built with Java Swing that explores game mechanics and interactive design.
  • Advancing the Opencraft project into Opencraft4, adding more sophisticated capabilities such as hardware ray tracing on supported devices.
  • Experimenting with backend applications and dashboards—including systems that call AI APIs in the background—to improve productivity in areas like studying for college exams.
  • Advising early-stage startups with hands-on software engineering support, from architecture guidance to practical implementation.

Opencraft4

A voxel world engine I’ve been building for years—procedural terrain, biomes, and rendering that now includes hardware ray tracing on supported devices.
